Southern Jam Fest Superlatives: Shooters
HAMPTON, VA — Hoop Group’s Southern Jam Fest featured a ton of talent, and Prep Hoops was in the gym for a full weekend of exciting action. Now it’s time to take a look back at what we saw. Here we begin our superlatives series with a look at ten of the top shooters we observed.
’19 CALEB DAWKINS | TEAM LOADED 757
Caleb Dawkins had one of the most outstanding individual performances of the weekend when he dropped 35 points, hitting eight triples en route. The rising senior out from Grassfield High School showed why he is considered one of the best shooters in the state if Virginia.
’19 JACOB DREES | NOVA VILLAGE RUSSELL
We saw Jacob Drees connect on four triples in one half against DC Premier. The versatile 6-foot-6 wing was very efficient with the ball.
’19 HAKIM HART | PHILLY PRIDE
6-foot-3 SG Hakim Hart lit it up all weekend long for Philly Pride, who finished as the runner up in the 17U Elite Division. He is a set shooter with a quick release who can also mix it up a bit off the bounce.
’19 GIBSON JIMERSON | BOO WILLIAMS
Rated as a top-10 shooter on the EYBL by Open Look Analytics, Gibson Jimerson hit three triples in the game we saw him play. The 6-foot-5 sharpshooter works well without the ball and is always ready to shoot from the catch.
’20 AMIR NESBITT | BOO WILLIAMS
To put it simply, Boo Williams would not have won the championship without the contributions of Amir Nesbitt. An elite shooter with deep range and a quick release, Nesbitt connected on at least two threes during each game he played in.
’19 JUSTIN PAZ | WE R1
Justin Paz was one of two snipers in the We R1 back court. The reliable lead guard, who plays with a high motor and IQ, showed that he is a knock down shooter. Paz played a key role in helping his team lift the 17U Elite Championship.
’19 LESTER QUINONES | NEW HEIGHTS
6-foot-5 wing Lester Quinones is touted as one of the top shooters in the country, and this is because of his size and deep range off the catch. He moves well without the ball and is able to shoot over top of most defenders at this level.
’19 ALEXANDER RICE | WE R1
Alexander Rice looked like a knock down three point shooter all weekend long for the 17u Elite Champs. The class of 2019 PG, who spaced the floor well in transition, exhibited a quick release and was very accurate from the catch.
’21 AJ WILLIAMS | TEAM LOADED VA
J Williams just keeps on winning. The state champ was a consistent threat from the perimeter for Team Loaded VA this weekend, who won their division and are now 21-0 and look like the top team nationally in their age group.
’19 SEAN YODER | EAST COAST POWER
Sean Yoder led East Coast Power to an impressive win over Team Loaded 804, where his team hit 21 threes. The skilled 6-foot-2 point guard, who was effective off the bounce and from the catch, also shot it well in his team’s win over Team Loaded NC.
