Recruiting Report: Jared Hankins (2019)
While a good chunk of the DI talent has picked up an offer already, there are a handful that are still looking for that initial one. Among the diminishing list is Lawrence North (IN) guard Jared Hankins. Hankins is a 6’4 wing that has shown to be one of the best shooters in the state and one of the biggest scoring threats as well.
Hankins, who has been on the radar of a lot of local DI programs for a while, is still searching out his first offer but July could be when that finally happens. He’s already drawing a ton of interest from Northern Kentucky, Miami (OH), Belmont, Youngstown State, Ball State, Lafayette, Bucknell, Lipscomb, Furman, Cal State-Fullerton, Northern Illinois, Cleveland State, Evansville, and Indiana State. The latest to reach out are The Citadel, Lehigh, and New Orleans.
The laundry list of schools seem to dictate the level of interest, it’s merely just getting that first school to pull the trigger. The thing that works in Hankins favor is his ability to put the ball in the basket. He’s tremendous with his jumper and has really gained ground in the last year as a guy that can get to the rim. He’s put up some massive scoring totals in games and that has really made things interesting because this Spring, he wasn’t able to pull that off.
That isn’t likely to continue as Hankins is a little inconsistent but overall, he’s never really a player that has a bad game. If he can string a few games where he is putting up those 30 and 40-point outputs, with the amount of games and days played in July, he’s going to find a rhythm and hit on a few.
Playing for Indiana Elite Fastbreak 2019, the team is built for playing uptempo and very conducive for Hankins style of play. With that, they have a few other players drawing in plenty of DI interest and their stops in New York, California, and Orlando for the month of July will give them plenty of nation visibility. With that, Hankins just has to do what he does best, put the ball in the basket.
