Recruiting Report: Jahmir Young (2019)
Jahmir Young, a class of 2019 point guard at DeMatha, has had a tremendous start to the 2018 calendar year. After a season in which he helped the Stags claim the WCAC title, the hard working lead guard has helped propel Team Takeover to a 12-0 start on the EYBL. Young had a breakout performance in Atlanta, recording 30 points, 9 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds in a comprehensive win over Rose City Rebels. We asked him to evaluate how his team is performing this spring.
“We are 12-0 as a team so far this season,” Young began. “So our goal as a team, and my goals individually are to win Peach Jam and The 8 in Vegas, so we are on moving in the right direction.”
Team chemistry has certainly played an essential role in the success of this particular squad. If you watch this video from 2014, you will recognize quite a few of Young’s current teammates, both from AAU and high school. He commented on the correlation between the familiarity of his team and the success they’re having so far.
“Most of my teammates we have all played together since we were 8 years old,” he explained. “That has had a huge impact on our chemistry.”
Bucknell, Howard, Lehigh, Old Dominion, Towson, and UNC Greensboro are among the schools who have offered Young this spring. While his recruitment is really starting to pick up, it seems like at this point his main priority is staying the course and continuing to improve.
“The recruiting is going well so far this summer,” said Young. “Right now my main focus is on getting better, and winning Peach Jam so I am living in the gym. NO DAYS OFF!!”
Jahmir Young is ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-15 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2019 class, click here.
