Recruiting Report: Hogan Orbaugh (2019)
Depth. That is the key to the success of the 2019 class so far. Guys at each position and many of them have made this one of the more interesting next 12 months to watch with regards to recruiting. As we have talked about a bit already, the post player options in the class are vast.
Zionsville’s Hogan Orbaugh is one of those that is going to draw quite a bit of interest, especially at the DIII level. The 6’8 post player is a high academic student who is already drawing in a ton of interest locally from a number of teams because of his size, improved body, and effectiveness as a low post scorer.
DePauw, Wabash, Bethel, and Hanover are some of the schools that are showing interest already. Orbaugh has already been on a visit to DePauw but will look to take one to Hanover College coming up soon.
The strides that Hogan has made over the last couple years has been big. He’s been able to cut down his weight and improve his footwork a bit. He’s a really good scorer in the post now and while he doesn’t do a ton of scoring outside of the paint, he’s not really a guy you can stop down low when he gets his chances. He uses his body well and is able to carve out space well.
As the footwork continues to develop and if he can key in on the ball handling, he’s only going to become more effective. When you are looking for someone who can give you reliable points, he’s going to do just that. Colleges are interested not where he is at now as much as what he can become. Those early strides have set him up for success the next year and beyond.
