Evan Buckley, a class of 2019 point guard from Stone Bridge, has been a key contributor this spring for an undefeated DC Premier team that is currently ranked second in our 17U National AAU Rankings. The reliable floor general, who leads his team with an offensive rating of 144 (per Open Look Analytics), spoke on the strong start he and his teammates have had.
“I’ve been shooting the ball really well; playing solid defense,” said Buckley, who is shooting over 52% from the field, 41% from three, and has a 2:1 assist:turnover ratio on the UAA. “And getting the ball to the guys in the right places to score while making plays and hitting shots.”
As far as his current recruitment is concerned, Yale, Delaware, Lehigh, and Bucknell are among the schools standing out the most. Buckley has reportedly visited Yale and Bucknell within the past two months. We don’t anticipate a decision to come from him until at least late in the summer. What does Buckley hope to accomplish in the mean time?
“I’d like to go out of my AAU career with a championship in Vegas,” he stated.
Buckley mentioned that his school is scheduled to attend a couple of high school team camps next month, most likely at Millersville, American, and possibly Hoop Group. Those camps will collectively serve as a good test for the Bulldogs heading into next season. Buckley commented on what it will it take for his team to win a state championship.
“We’re going to have to be great defensively. We’re going to make shots and plays because were a very skilled offensive team. We’re tough to guard because everyone can shoot. Rebounding and defense are going to be the keys to a W or an L.”
Evan Buckley is ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-20 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Virginia’s 2019 class, click here.
