Recruiting Report: DJ Steward (2020)
Fenwick 2020 point guard DJ Steward is one of the premier prospects in the state of Illinois regardless of class. The silky smooth lead guard had a monster sophomore campaign and has taken it up even another notch this spring. He was one of the top performers at the Run N Slam in Fort Wayne this past weekend. We caught up with him to see how he is playing.
“I am playing alright. I have to pick up on my defense. Come out with the mentality to kill and go at anybody.”
He mentioned a few areas of his game that have gone to the next level.
“My jump shot, knocking down threes, and getting to the free throw line.”
Steward updated us on his recruitment.
“Notre Dame has been in contact with me. Since the Xavier coach Luke Murray left he was at the game against Arkansas Woodz. He is at Louisville now.”
What schools were heavily tracking him in the live periods?
“DePaul, Illinois, Louisville, and Notre Dame.”
He told us there are four schools he would like to visit this spring or summer.
“Illinois, Notre Dame, Louisville, and Marquette.”
Illinois has made him a priority for a while.
“I like coach Chin. Him and Coach Underwood seem to be getting the program back up and running. Trying to get kids to stay in-state and put on for their state.”
Notre Dame is another school that got in the mix early with the talented guard.
“It is a Catholic school and I go to a Catholic school. I have been to campus. It is a real nice campus. I like the coaches and how the players treat each other.”
Louisville’s staff at Xavier recruited him and they look to be an emerging player for the Chicago standout.
“I don’t know a ton about Louisville yet, but I like going to the state of Kentucky and traveling there.”
