Recruiting Report: Cory Richards (2019)
One of my picks to break out very soon is 6’2 shooting guard Cory Richards. He has the ability to catch fire and knock down multiple shots in a row as well as get to the rim and finish at a high clip. In a class dominated by guards, Richards is a guy who stands out due to his height.
He is able to get to the rim and score using his size against taller defenders and that makes him very valuable. He is a tough guard who isn’t afraid to bang around down low fighting for rebounds and looking to put it up in the paint. His jumper needs a bit of polishing up but at times he can get red hot. Richards can handle the ball quite well, but isn’t a lead guard at the next level.
Richards has one offer from Concordia Ann Arbor (NAIA) plus interest from many different schools. Schools that have been showing Richards the highest amount of interest have been Earlham, Wabash, St. Francis, Indiana Tech, IU Kokomo and Covenant College. Richards is planning to take a visit to Earlham sometime in the upcoming future but isn’t quite sure when that will be.
Richards is a guy who the coaches like because he is a three level scorer. He can hit the deep ball, pull-up in transition, or take it to the rim and score. Richards has always been impressive on defense using his length to get his hands on balls and knock them away. He is a guy who is getting better in every aspect of his game right now.
This past high school season he scored 14.9 points a game, tops for his Franklin Community squad. This upcoming season should be a big one for Richards as he becomes a bigger part of the offense and is more consistent with his jumper. With Richards working on his strength right now, he is just getting to the point where he is going to be able to take over games, and with his confidence, opposing teams will have to gameplay against him.
