Recruiting Report: CJ Dickson (2018)
CJ Dickson is a top 60 talent in the 2018 class, having scored 8.4 PPG for DeLaSalle as a senior as well as enjoying a nice AAU career with MN Select.
The 6-foot-3 wing was playing with an all-senior team at Battle At The Lakes, and he explained how his college options spanned across several divisions.
“Currently I have Lake Region State — a D1 juco offer,” Dickson said. “Then St. Thomas, Michigan State I could potentially walk on in my second year, and I’m strongly considering going to the new organization Minnesota Prep. It’s a new program, it’s low key right now, but I know it’s going to be big because it’s being founded under the same guys who run Tennessee Prep, who won the national title. I know it’s going to be a good platform for players like me to be put into a bigger spotlight for more coaches.
The interesting piece is that Dickson wouldn’t be going prep or junior college for academics, as he already holds a 3.5 GPA and 27 ACT. He would be going to simply get more court time and development — and he’s paying attention to a few more recruitment factors.
“Honestly, my dream is to go D1, but I’m grateful for any D2 or D3. It’s who really wants me, that’s what getting my attention right now. When they put forth the extra time to say they value me as a player and want me to go to their school, that piques my interest.”
Time for a decision is waning. Dickson is a smart kid who is weighing all of his options.
“I at least want to be certain about which school I want to go to by July,” Dickson said. “I don’t want to put that extra pressure on my family. That’s actually a big factor, because college is something where basketball can set me up financially. It might not be a career in basketball, but the sport might set me up for tuition aid. So I’m looking wherever that may take me in life.”
