Recruiting Report: Christian Shumate (2020)
Plainfield East 2020 wing Christian Shumate is uber bouncy 6’5” small forward that’s game lives off his athleticism and ability to get to the rim. He has long strides attacking off the bounce and is explosive in the lane finishing with spin moves or just going right after the rim. Really like how aggressive he is taking the ball to the cup. Quick and assertive moves. Efficient on his takes. Play so hard! Shumate needs to improve his jump shot to round out his offensive game. Projects well defensively with his length, toughness, and anticipation. Shumate has low-major upside.
How was his high school season at Plainfield East?
“At the beginning of the season we were the team to beat, but toward the end of the season we had a lot of injuries and we started falling off. We lost in the first round to Lemont.”
He discussed his year individually.
“I played pretty good. I rebounded well and put enough points to help my team get wins.”
What are the strengths in his game as a prospect at this stage?
“I am good scoring off the dribble and being a slasher. I can rebound well and get up the floor. I am developing my shot.”
One in-state school has noticed Shumate’s ability early in the process.
“I have talked to Eastern Illinois and that is the only school I have really talked to so far.”
