Recruiting Report: Ben Nicoson (2019)
One of the most interesting groups in this year’s AAU circuit is Indiana Elite Metro 2019. They have so many players that are drawing interest, some going a little under the radar. One such player is Center Grove (IN) guard Ben Nicoson.
Nicoson, a 6’0 guard, has been a really interesting player in the 2019 class with his ability to handle the offense, use max effort, and has a capable jumper from deep. He’s a guy that will play on the ball at the next level and be a guy you can trust to get the job done.
Ben isn’t going to be a big time scoring threat but his perimeter shooting is really solid and especially when he can hit it off the catch. He’s decent on the pull-up as well but isn’t the kind of guard that is going to take a shot just to take one. He’s so reliable and efficient with his play, it has drawn the interest of quite a few coaches so far.
At this time, Nicoson is hearing from Anderson, Wabash, Chicago, and Covenant. The local DIII programs are all interested and while a lot of it is because of his game, the high-academic’s are coming into play as well.
The early interest from DIII programs is a good sign but don’t be shocked if a strong July could turn some more heads. There are a number of point guards in the class all at about the same level and all it takes is a big weekend or two to really change your perspective. With Indiana Elite Metro’s play over the last two years, they have put up some big numbers and Nicoson has the type of skill to take advantage of that and shine.
