Recruiting Report: Anthony Fairlee (2019)
Sprinfield Southeast 2019 shooting guard Anthony Fairlee is one of the premier athletes in the state. The strong and freaky athletic 6’3” shooting guard plays above the rim and has the potential to be a game changer on the defensive end. Rebounds well for his position. Fairlee led his team to a state runner up finish in 3A as a junior. He spoke about this past season at Southeast.
“My year went pretty good. It was my best year that I have had so far. I came out with a lot of energy and knew I had to step up being a leader.”
Playing on the biggest stage in Illinois hoops was something he has been hoping to do for a while.
“It felt good because it is something I always wanted to do. My freshman year I thought we were going to do it, but we didn’t. I had to wait until my junior year. It was a nice environment to be in.”
Where did his game evolve this season?
“My mid-range jump shot and ball handling. I was able to bring up the ball a lot.”
Becoming at least more of a shooting threat has opened up more avenues for him.
“Yea at the beginning of the year coach told me everybody knew what I did and that I needed to start expanding myself and becoming a more versatile player.”
One school has jumped in the mix with a scholarship.
“I got my first offer from Central Michigan. I don’t really know much about them. I watched them play last year against the Illini. We talked to them about what type of team I like to play for.”
There are several other programs monitoring him.
“Green Bay, Tulsa, SIU-Edwardsville, and those are the main ones that have been in contact.”
Fairlee is currently the #9 overall prospect and #3 shooting guard in Illinois.
