Prospect Spotlight: Straton Rogers (2020)
Rocky Mountain’s 6-foot-3 forward Straton Rogers is continuing his quest to be Division I basketball player, and hopes that a big summer with Boise Slam can get him closer to that goal.
A lefty with some serious quickness, Rogers excels at getting to the rim, and says he’s a versatile threat, who’s comfortable anywhere on the floor.
“I have a really strong left hand and move quick, so I can usually get my defender with my left. I’m looking to improve on getting stronger and bigger,” said Rogers.
“I feel comfortable anywhere, I feel I’m best while driving to the hoop.”
As a key contributor on Idaho’s 5A state champs last March, Rogers was able to go through an experience that most guys never get the chance to.
As he heads into his junior season next winter with the defending champs, he’ll take the leadership he learned from this year’s seniors and apply it to a newer, younger generations of Grizzlies.
“My role last year was to just show my coach what I got. And going against those seniors in practice everyday made me a lot better,” said Rogers. “They showed me how to be a leader.”
So far this spring, things have been going well with Boise Slam 16U. Rogers has a big summer ahead with the team, and hopes his recruitment can start to take shape then.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing if any coaches like me. In the future, I really want to play D1 basketball.”
