Prospect Spotlight: Mason Griffin (2019)
LAWRENCE, Kan. — One of the state’s top small school players, Silver Lake guard Mason Griffin is putting together a strong season for SSA Elite.
A 6’2, 180-pound guard, Griffin is a terrific outside shooter with a good feel for the game and the ability to create his own shot.
“Shooting from the outside is my strength,” he says. “I’m not overly athletic but I take pride in defense and rebounding.”
Griffin is coming off a season in which he averaged 18 points per game, was named all-state and helped lead Silver Lake to a 17-7 record. It was the second straight season he averaged 18 points.
This summer, Griffin has played alongside several of the state’s top players, including AJ Dickerson (Junction City), Trey Duffey (Seaman), Levi Braun (Hayden), Dyelan Reed (Concordia), Braden Belt (Andover Central) among others.
“The majority of my summer team has been together since eighth-grade, so it is a fun, tight knit group,” Griffin said. “It’s been a good experience and I’m just trying to enjoy my last summer season.”
Griffin says he has been spending the offseason focused on ball-handling and speed and quickness.
