Prospect Spotlight: Julian Walker (2019)
‘Under the radar’ is a common term used in athletics. Julian Walker has flown under the radar until this spring. Coaches and fans have started to recognize the talent and skills that the young man has. Walker is a 6’4” guard/wing in the class of 2019. He plays for the Motor City Bad Boys 17u and attends Detroit Henry Ford High School.
C/O TwitterJulian Walker has the tools to be a star. At 6’4”, he has the versatility to play any position from point guard to wing. Walker has grown 3 1/2 inches since last AAU season which has allowed him to expand his game. He’s gained strength to go along with his height and has become a nightmare for opponents to check.
Walker has developed into an elite defender. His length allows him to bottle up defenders while his strength allows him to hold his ground. Walker takes pride in his footwork on the defensive end. He has very quick feet that allow him to defend fast and aggressive point guards. In fact, Walker can be a lockdown defender and can check an opponents best guard or scorer. “This kid can guard anyone,” said Motor City Bad Boys Coach Durrell Foster.
Julian Walker is also excellent on the offensive end of the court. He is at his best when attacking the basket. Walker uses his strength and footwork to get to the rim. He’s a very strong and efficient finisher. He uses his strength and physicality and can score through contact. “Reminds me a lot of a Paul George kind of player,” said Coach Durrell Foster.
Julian Walker has played up each of the past three years. This spring he is finally in his own age group at 17u. Last spring and summer, Walker played up at 17u and still averaged nearly 15ppg. Now that he’s not playing up, sky is the limit for this young man. Fans and coaches should keep an eye on Julian Walker this spring and summer. As he draws attention to his his skill set, his recruitment should pick up heading into next season.
