Prospect Spotlight: Joseph Jones (2019)
After strong junior season at Northview, 5-foot-10 point guard Joseph Jones is ready to carry that momentum into his 17U offseason this spring and summer.
The junior has been working the past 12 months to become a better leader, and took the reins of his Titans squad this past winter.
“I make an impact by being a leader, I like to help out my teammates if they don’t know what to do, and guiding them to the right spots,” said Jones, Georgia’s 53rd-ranked 2019.
“And I’m mostly a slasher. I like to get to the hoop, and a lot of times, I’ll get fouled.”
Jones says he averaged 16 points and three steals per game as a junior at Northview. Those stats are sure tells of a solid two-way prospect.
“One of our best players left last season, so I needed to step up this year and be more of a point guard and just make smarter choices,” said Jones. “And I had to play really great defense and bring the energy.”
He’s been playing this spring with North Atlanta Orangemen 17U, and says after a rocky start, he’s started to feel good about the way he’s playing.
“I started off kind of slow, I was in a shooting slump and had to get my rhythm back. But lately, I’ve started being a better player, and now I’m able to put together a whole game,” said Jones.
According to Jones, The Citadel recently became the first college program that has shown interest in him; and with that, his recruitment is off and running.
“That’s the first school that’s shown any interest, actually. My goal is to get at least two offers by the end of the summer, or at least a lot more interest,” said Jones.
“I’m just going to work hard to be a better player and get noticed, just so I can get more looks.”
