Prospect Spotlight: Jaylen Jennings (2019)
One guy that a lot of college coaches around the state haven’t heard of yet may be the guy with the highest upside for a small college. Avon hasn’t been at the top of the list for destinations of college coaches the last few years but this upcoming year, that could change. Jaylen Jennings is a 6’5 SF who just got into the game of basketball over the last year and has already started to receive some interest.
Jennings is very mobile and athletic but is still working on his more basketball oriented skills. During the AAU season he has been impressing running with Indiana Elite Central and has been improving vastly. He is such an athlete that he is able to pick up things very quickly. He is improving as a defender but still will need to show that he can guard on the perimeter.
Jennings has been contacted by Earlham, Ohio Northern, and Anderson the most. He plans on visiting those first two schools sometime this summer. He took a Bethel visit in the fall and has been in contact with them since that time. This summer, Johnson has been invited to summer camps at Central Michigan and Ohio Dominican to showcase his skills.
Jennings is able to use his versatility and quickness to run the floor. He is beginning to be able to handle the ball better allowing him to push it up the floor. He’s an elite rebounder who high points the ball with two hands in traffic. His vision is improving as well allowing him to pass the ball out of trouble.
Jennings is still very raw but is looking really good this AAU season. He is playing above the rim and is starting to show a working jumper. Jennings is going to be a guy who a college takes and looks to develop over his first few years. Once in a college system, a few years down the road this high academic prospect will be really good.
