Prospect Spotlight: Gabe Fisher (2019)
LAWRENCE, Kan. — After putting together a strong junior season at Wichita Collegiate, 2019 forward player Gabe Fischer is turning heads this spring competing for MoKan Select.
At 6’6, Fisher is capable of stretching the floor with his perimeter shooting, but is also capable of taking smaller players to the paint. He brings a versatile, inside-out game to the floor.
“I would describe my game as a mix of everything,” he says. “I can play inside and out so it is easy for me to get shots and fit in with teams.”
A year ago, he hot better than 30 percent from behind the 3-point arc and led his team in scoring at 14 points per game while sharing the scoring and leadership duties with seniors Grant Deiter and Nate Kelley.
“My role on the team was just being a player and doing anything that my coach asked me offensively and defensively,” Fisher said.
Fisher is in his first season running with MoKan Select and has teamed with several talented players for a squad that is putting together a strong spring.
“I really enjoy my summer team,” Fisher said. “I was a bit cautious for trying out for the team at first because the practices are more than three hours away but I decided it was what is best for me.
“It’s really nice to have teammates that are at a much higher level then if I would have stayed in my hometown of Wichita and played there. The experience that I’m trying to get is to get better as a basketball player and get more exposure.”
Fisher says his main focus this offseason is working on his ball handling and improving his guard skills as well as tightening up his outside shooting stroke.
