Prospect Spotlight: Brady Conn (2019)
Brady Conn just finished a really good Junior season for Floyd Central, averaging 14.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game and shooting 52% from the field. As he enters the summer before his final season of high school basketball, Conn is focused on improving as a shooter in hopes of reaching the college level. I recently caught up with Conn to discuss his recruitment and expectations for his senior year at Floyd Central.
PHKY: Describe your game for people who may never have seen you play. What are your strengths? What do you need to improve?
BC: I’m a inside post scorer that can shoot the mid range jumper efficiently. I feel I have an above average jump shot that ranges beyond the three-point line. I have a a good ability to get in the lane and either finish at the basket or distribute to an open teammate. I feel I have the ability to bring consistent rebounding, multiple blocks per game, a mid-range jumper, three-point touch, above average ball handling and be a lock down defender on my team. As a senior and only returning starter I plan on being a mentor to my team mates and a role model for hard work. I hope to use my experience to be a leader on the floor by motivating my team. I want to improve all aspects of my game. Overall, I want to play more solid defense and develop into a improved, stronger re bounder and shot blocker. I have set goals to improve my free throw percentages and agility as well.
PHKY: Reflect on your high school season. Were you happy with your individual performance? Were you happy with your team results?
BC: Our inaugural season as a team at Floyd Central we finished as conference and district champions. We were runners up in the WYMT Mountain Basketball Classic. Our schedule, I feel, was one of the toughest in our region. We played several top ten teams in the state including Scott Co., Trinity and Madison Central. Going up against top teams really helped me see where I could improve. Some of the losses to the top teams were by single digits with a very competitive effort. I am proud of the close bonds we shared as team mates. It was a season I will never forget. I received a few individual awards that I was proud of but would trade for a regional championship for my team and outgoing seniors. I was named to the All Mountain Classic First team, All District and Conference first team and All Region First Team. Overall we played a tough schedule and began to see improvement with each game. Our season goal was not reached and I feel it left our team wanting to improve and go farther next season. We brought a winning record to our first year as a school.
PHKY: Who are you playing AAU with? How is your season going so far?
BC: I am currently not participating in AAU. I am doing individual workout with On Point Ballers/Sports City U weekly. These workouts are helping me improve my ball handling and agility. I am training daily with individual and team goals. Our teams summer season begins in two weeks. I have a few camps I am attending this summer as well.
PHKY: What schools are recruiting you? Any Offers?
BC: Currently I do not have any offers.
PHKY: What can you take from your AAU season and apply to your next high school season?
BC: Where I am not playing AAU, I am using this time to work on my game and better myself for my senior season. In previous AAU seasons I have used the time to work on the basics I feel I needed to improve. Hustling after a loose ball, talking to my team mates on defense, developing more stamina as the game went on are a few things I needed. I am a tremendous competitor. I know that AAU players are also competitive so I want to stand out on my team as a hard worker. I want to do what it takes to win.
PHKY: What are your goals for your next high school season?
BC: Individually I want to improve my overall scoring. I want to take more high percentage shots and improve my free throw numbers. I would like to be back at the top in rebounding stats. As a team, I want us to go as far as possible. A regional championship will be our team goal and I would like to improve on that as well.
Brady Conn is a young man who put up big time numbers in his Junior season and will only get better in his senior season. In his high school career Conn has racked up a huge list of accolades. More than can be printed here. What Conn deserves is the eyes of some college coaches. Conn would be an ideal NAIA/D2 4 man who can score around the bucket and out past the elbows. Brady is also a monster rebounder. For his career, Conn is averaging more than 10 rebounds per game. Floyd Central could find themselves at Rupp Arena to end their season in 2019 and if they reach that point, Brady Conn will be the one who led them there. Fans and coaches should take note of him as he is going to finish up a high school career with huge totals in both points and rebounds.
