Prospect Profile: Isaac Lange (2019 Thurston HS/Team Fly)
Ultra athletic 2019 guard Issac Lange of 5A state champion Thurston enters into the spring having joined a new aau program, opting to play for Team Fly on their 17U team based out of Salem. After playing in April with his new team, we caught up with Lange to discuss recruiting, what he’s looking for in a college program, and what he plans to focus on to become a better player entering his senior season.
“I’ve enjoyed the experience of playing on a new team and traveling to tournaments in Bellevue and Oakland. So far our team has blended together really well.” “I don’t have an official offer yet, but am hearing regularly from schools like Portland State, Portland, Oregon State, Alaska Anchorage, and others. I’m excited to continue the recruiting process and show coaches how much I continue to improve.” When asked what he would be looking for in a college program, Lange had this to say: “I’m mainly looking for a welcoming campus, obviously a good team, and something not too far away. I’m just looking forward to a new chapter in my life. I’m also looking for someplace with a good education program, because I hope to become a teacher after graduation.”
When asked to assess his game and identify strengths & weaknesses as he sees them Lange was very honest in his self evaluation: “I’m an athletic point guard who can get to the basket, my court IQ, the energy I bring on defense, and my ball handling. Areas that I’m working to improve are my mid range and three point shooting.”
Prep Hoops Evaluation:
Isaac Lange is an ultra athletic 6’2 combo guard from Thurston High School in Springfield. He has risen to the #4 ranking in the class of 2019 over the past 15 months. Lange is a fierce competitor who lead his Thurston team to the Oregon class 5A state championship in March. Lange is tremendous on the defensive end of the floor, both pressuring the ball and using his length and athleticism to get into passing lanes. He gets his hands on a lot of passes. Offensively he has improved as both a shooter and a ball handler but is still most effective in straight line drives to the basket or finishing in transition. Kid plays above the rim on both ends of the floor with a high motor. Definitely a player that high level D2 and low major D1’s should spend the time evaluating this summer.
