Prospect Profile: Dominic Blake (2019 Columbia Christian HS/Deep III)
AAU basketball can be definitely be a different animal than high school basketball, and Dominic Blake can attest to that. The steady 6-foot-1, 145-pound point guard has a big role on his Columbia Christian High School team, but in club ball he’s more of a supporting cast member. He takes it all in stride.
“I’m just trying to get better,” Blake said. “I’m just working on driving to the basket more, being more vocal especially because I’ll need to do that more next year.”
Blake noted that he plays both with Deep III and the Vancouver Grizzlies on the AAU circuit. At The Hoop Memorial Day Classic with Deep III, his court time was relatively limited. But at the Oregon High Academic Showcase the night before the tournament, he was able to show some steadiness at the point and showed a nice touch from the perimeter, hitting a number of threes.
From a college recruitment perspective, he’s heard from Pacific Lutheran but remains open. “Academics is the big thing, I want to major in forensic science,” Blake said. “(With basketball) I just want to have a good team.”
This past season as a junior with Columbia Christian, Blake earned Second Team All-Tournament honors at the 2A State Tournament after averaging 11.7 points in tourney play.
