Prospect Profile: Alex Jaczko (2019 Newberg/Team Fly North)
While many young men grow up playing club basketball, that’s not the case with everyone. Alex Jaczko, a versatile 6-foot-5, 190-pound forward from Newberg, had mostly ran with the kids he grew up with in town. But this spring he’s been lacing it up with Team Fly North (White) and it’s opened up his eyes to new horizons.
“I’m pretty new to the whole experience but I’m really starting to enjoy it,” Jaczko said. “I’m starting to get more comfortable with my teammates and it’s a good change.”
Jaczko is an all-around player who has grown up playing inside but has a nice touch from the perimeter. The key is building on his game in-between. “I feel like I’m trying to expand my game right now,” Jaczko said. “My natural position is more of a post but I’m handling the ball a little bit more and AAU has presented me the opportunity to do that.”
Traveling and playing in front of college coaches is giving Jaczko the opportunity to get some exposure. He’s hopeful his play this spring and summer will open some doors with a college program. “I’m looking for something that can help me grow as a player,” Jaczko said. “And something more local than far away.”
A college recruitment will come when it comes. For now Jaczko is focused on playing with his high school team in June and then rejoining Team Fly North in July. “Rest of the summer I just want to keep growing as a player,” Jaczko said. “Improve my ball-handling and get some new experiences. This whole AAU thing, I’m really enjoying it.”
