Here is a look at some of the standouts from the opening night of the Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown in St. Louis:
Terron Robinson 6’1″ St. Louis Cobras Elite 17U: An explosive athlete from Francis Howell Central who did an excellent job of getting buckets at all three levels in a victory over All Missouri Attack. He really got himself going in the first half with a big transition dunk. Next came an array of driving baskets and short jumpers through traffic. In the second half, he knocked down 3-pointers over a zone defense. He is a talented offensive player that is always probing the defense for a weakness.
Ahmad Louis 6’2″ Marcus Denmon Elite 17U: Another bucket-getter who was impressive in his team’s opening night victory over the St. Louis Shooting Stars. He was excellent in the transition game where he had several nice finishes. He was tough on the drive and played through contact, plus he knocked down a couple of open 3-pointers to keep the defense honest. He’s quick and very aggressive. Attends Oak Park.
Riley Oberbeck 6’3″ Missouri Showtime 17U: A solid all-around player from Strafford who doesn’t have many weaknesses in his game. His fundamentals are excellent and he makes the right play at the right time. He is a very good passer who handles the ball well and makes open shots. I like how he keeps the ball moving on offense like a propeller.
Jake Farnsworth 5’11” All Missouri Attack 17U: Nice little point guard from Fordland who had an excellent showing in a loss to the St. Louis Cobras. He has confident handles and knock-down shooting ability from long distance. He made six 3-pointers in the game and also dished out some nice assists.
Landon Pasley 6’3″ Dominators 17U: This was the first time I’ve seen this young man from St. Joe Central play and I was very impressed. He’s kind of a positionless forward who does a lot of things well. His footwork is excellent as he scored several inside buckets. His passing was on point, whether it was in the half court or in transition. A very unselfish player who still scored 20 points last night.
Kaleb Anderson 6’1″ St. Louis Cobras Elite 17U: Talented guard who scored 24 points and made five 3-pointers in a victory over All Missouri Attack. He really stretched the defense with his high-arching 3-pointers, plus he did a nice job of hawking the ball on defense.
