Nike EYBL: Top Performers
The second live period has come to a close and coaches are back at the respective schools, we are back at home, and prospects are fielding calls from those interested in them from their play. Today, we take a look back and see who played well and who some new names are from this weekend. This is our breakdown of the players we saw standout this weekend. These are our top prospects from Nike EYBL.
Keion Brooks Jr. – 6’8 / SF / 2019 / Fort Wayne North (IN) / Indy Heat 2019 EYBL
Brooks looked in peak form this weekend. The 6’8 wing is as aggressive as ever and he was really good attacking the rim this weekend. Jumper wasn’t as big of a weapon when I watched but the ball handling and confidence to use it on the EYBL circuit is growing. He had a couple highlight reel dunks and has added a little bit more strength since the school year is over. He’s been so consistent and the production continues to rise.
Trayce Jackson-Davis – 6’9 / PF / 2019 / Center Grove (IN) / Indy Heat 2019 EYBL
Trayce struggled a little bit in the first game dealing with the length and aggressiveness of the defense but he picked it up an bit later on. Will need be a little more aggressive at the rim but he seemed to improve as the weekend went on. He’s so mobile and a lot more adept at finishing with either hand in the post. If he can be more physical in the post instead of reacting, he’s going to blow up. Already good without having that working perfectly yet.
John-Michael Mulloy – 6’10 / PF / 2019 / Carmel (IN) / Indy Heat 2019 EYBL
Mulloy is a tall forward who is already committed to Butler. The 6’10 post has picked it up a bit since high school, being a little more physical and aggressive. Needs to finish a little stronger at the rim but does well better against better competition and legit size. Uses his body well right now and as he drives stronger and more aggressive, the finishing ability should rise because he’s very mobile and could eventually play more of a stretch forward role.
Simon Banks – 6’2 / SG / 2019 / Brebeuf Jesuit (IN) / Indy Heat 2019 EYBL
Banks is a tall guard who looked better this weekend as more of a primary ball handler. Not sure that is his role long term but he looked better than we have seen before and when he looked to create, he was really good getting into scoring opportunities. Big and physical, Banks is a good mid-range shooter as well as from behind the arc. Would like to see a little more dribble-drive ability and get all the way to the rim. That could really round out his offense.
Sean Cobb – 6’7 / SF / 2019 / Williamston (MI) / Indy Heat 2019 EYBL
Cobb is a big wing with tons of versatility and athleticism. He’s really more of a 3/4 at the next level but plays really well in the low post. Good footwork and has strength on the frame that plays now. He can create well in the paint and dribble into good shots against length. Not sure if he can step out and shoot but with his face-up ability, could fill a small ball four role well.
Tra Jackson – 6’8 / SF / 2019 / Sunrise Christian (KS) / Meanstreets 2019 EYBL
Jackson is a tall forward that has really taken off in the last year. Well built and bouncy, Jackson is playing more of a wing than a year ago. Really improved his perimeter jumper and can space the floor while still having the handles to breakdown most wings and forwards to get all the way to the rim. Wired to score and a body that will give tons of versatility as he’s a willing rebounder and with some work, a good defensive player.
Brandon Newman – 6’4 / SG / 2019 / Valparaiso (IN) / Meanstreets 2019 EYBL
Newman was a bit streaky when we watched but he looked physically like he belonged with EYBL. Big and really strong, he was able to drive and attack the rim a bit but relied more on his perimeter jumper, which is still going strong. Part of his intrigue is his ability to post up and play inside. Didn’t get to show a ton of that but if he can do that by the end of the summer, against EYBL teams, his stock will take off.
Caleb Hogsdon – 6’9 / C / 2019 / Dansville (MI) / The Family 2019 EYBL
Hogsdon is a tall forward with some mobility and good low post scoring ability. His showed off more of his jumper than he has in the past and it looked solid and repeatable. His high release and size will make him difficult to stop if that part of his game sticks. He was also using more of his length and impacting the game defensively with it. He’s much more of a low post prospect but I think he’s getting to the point where he can hedge a little better and stretch the floor more comfortably than he was a year ago.
Isaiah Jackson – 6’9 / PF / 2020 / Old Redford (MI) / The Family 2019 EYBL
Jackson is a tall forward with tons of length and a rangy frame. He was pretty good on offense in the post, willing to be physical and it helped as a rebounder on both ends of the floor. He’s a bit wiry but that strength he has plays up and did cause some problems for opposing offensive players. He’s athletic and long enough to play on the wing if needed but played better offensive inside the three-point line.
Jalen Terry – 6’0 / PG / 2020 / Beecher (MI) / The Family 2019 EYBL
Terry is a smaller guard with a really thin frame but tons of energy and shooting ability. Plays a little frantic at times but the quickness of him helps to play defense and control the tempo of the game. Relies a ton on shooting and he does shoot it pretty well. Obviously will need to add strength but willing to play tough and doesn’t back down.
