Memorial Day Classic: Top Shooters from WA – 17U
Over the Memorial Day weekend, the Salem Hoop hosted its annual Memorial Day Classic. This article reviews the top shooters from the state of Washington that appeared in the 17U division of the tournament.
Ben Janssan – 6’3 – Team Fly Williams – Centralia High School – Class of 2018
Janssan is a 6’3 combo guard who is not afraid to shoot the three from several feet off the line. He plays a fearless brand of basketball, pairing with teammate Collin Warmouth of Roseburg High School to lead Team Fly Williams in scoring. Janssan came up big this weekend in the semifinal game, leading his team to an overtime victory over Local Hoops with 14 points, including 3 three-pointers and some timely free throws.
Roman Barnet – 5’9 – Seattle Select High Academic – West Seattle High School – Class of 2019
Roman Barnet uses solid mechanics and good shot selection to capitalize on defensive breakdowns with his high shooting percentage from downtown. When the defense closes out hard to take away his three-ball, he uses his quickness and strength to effectively attack the paint.
Jaeden Ingram – 6’1 – Clutch Basketball – Puyallup High School – Class of 2019
Ingram was one of the silkiest shooters in Salem this weekend, knocking down treys via spot-up and coming off of screens. In his first game of the weekend, against Prodigy Elite of California, Ingram knocked down 4 three-pointers with high efficiency. He also displayed the ability to create for himself off of the dribble against good defenders.
Riley Noah – 6’0 – Hoop Salem Select – Kelso High School – Class of 2019
Riley Noah is the type of hard-nosed guard that people love to watch. Strong and aggressive, Noah can more than hold his own on both ends of the floor. After hitting 4 threes in the first game of the weekend, he continued to shoot well from three-point range and on mid-range pull-ups, while leading Hoop Salem Select’s offensive attack.
Ethan Smith – 6’0 – Iron Athletics Sixers – Union High School – Class of 2019
Ethan Smith finished his junior season by breaking multiple Union High School shooting records, so it is no surprise that he continues to display his touch this spring. Smith hit 12 threes through his four games on the weekend, coming off of transition pull-ups, half-court isolation pull-ups, and perimeter spot-ups. His release is about as quick as you can find, allowing him to get his shot off in a variety of situations.
