Late May 16u AAU Team Rankings
The 16u division this summer is largely composed of Class of 2020 prospects. A sprinkling of top 2021 players like Zander Yates, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, Mason Miller, etc. do compete at the 16u level.
Middle Tennessee is stronger with 2020’s than usual.
Remember EAB 16u is playing without Keon Johnson (#1 2020), while BMaze is missing Akeem Odusipe and Jaden Springer. If all 2020’s played in the 16u division, then both EAB and BMaze could challenge Team Thad for second place.
Right now the Bluff City Legends and Team Thad 16u have a comfortable grip on the top two spots. Bluff City runs out Matthew Murrell, Kavion McClain, Alvin Miles, and Marcellus Brigham. Their speed with the basketball is frightening. In April, W.A.C.G. found that out the hard way.
With only a few meaningful events in the last two weeks the top two tiers of our 16u rankings remained exactly the same.
The Bluff City Legends belong #1 and Team Thad 16u is deservedly #2. Frankly the #3-#6 teams are very close in talent and results. While Hoop City Elite stands tall at #3, it is easy to imagine #4 BMaze Elite, #5 WHBH Gold, or #6 EAB defeating them in a head-to-head. All four are capable of winning weekend championships.
The #7-9 tier features three strong affiliated teams. Pharaoh Elite is an adidas Silver program. W.A.C.G. adorns the NIKE-crest when they play EYBL 16u and Chattanooga Elite Grey plays on the Gatorade Circuit.
Three new teams climbed in to the top 15.
Memphis in May revealed the strength of Memphis Showtime, who also captured a small title last week. Memphis Magic Elite played ok at the same event. They are now ranked #13 after hopping ahead of Team WHBH Black, Chattanooga Elite Navy, and Team Passion Elite Black (#14).
The fifteenth and final team this week is the Sevier County Select 2020/2021 unit. Winning their title Sunday helped them make their debut.
Good luck to all programs this Memorial Day Weekend. We are watching!
