Jayhawk Invitational: Top bigs (2019)
OVERLAND PARK, Kan.— Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the top 2019 big men at last weekend’s Jayhawk Invitational in Kansas City.
Brodie Marshall, 6’5, F, 2019, Gardner-Edgarton (Kan.), Team KC 17U
Marshall is an active big man who runs the floor well, rebounds and finishes plays around the basket. He needs to get a little stronger and work on his all-around game, but showed on Friday in a win over Team KC the ability to make plays.
Zane Meeks, 6’8, F, 2019, Shawnee Mission Northwest, KC Team Rush
Meeks has seen his stock rise considerably over the past year-plus and he showed why this weekend. He has good size and strong basketball frame, able to hold his own in the paint against other big men, and at the offensive end of the court he has good hands, can pass, set screens and finish around the basket and is a knock down perimeter shooter. He’s one of the few natural stretch 4 prospects in the state and currently holds a pair of NCAA Division I offers.
23 — Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, 6’8, F, 2019, Bishop Miege, KC Run GMC
One of the Midwest’s top forward prospects, Robinson-Earl continues to shine this spring as he largely dominated the field at the Jayhawk Invitational. The KC Spurs played Robinson-Earl just about as tough as you could on Friday, but he’s nearly impossible to stop and finished with 25 points and adding 12 rebounds as Run GMC held on for an opening night win. Ronbinson-Earl is a skilled forward with terrific footwork in the post and a feel for scoring around the bucket and in the paint, but can also step out and play on the perimeter, able to shoot the 3, handle the ball a little and defend multiple spots. He recently picked up an offer from Roy Williams and North Carolina, adding to an already impressive list.
Siler Tschirhart, 6’8, PF/C, 2019, Blue Valley, KC Spurs
Tschirhart continued to impress throughout the weekend in Kansas City. Known for his post play, toughness and physical style of play, Tschirhart had some good moments in the Spurs’ opener on Friday against a talented KC Run GMC front line. The Spurs’ took Run GMC to the wire despite playing nearly the entire way without forward Daylen Ridgnal as Tschirhart and others stepped up.
32-Ethan Vlasic, 6’7, F, 2019, Blue Valley North, KC Spurs
Vlasic has a good low post game is starting to look more comfortable at the high post. He has great size at 6’7 and a smooth jumper. He can block shots, rebound, and protect the paint well. He also can make things happen in transition, someone who looks ahead and scores off the glass through contact.
