Jayhawk Invitational Recap (Class of 2019 Point Guards)
Here are some of the top Class of 2019 point guards from last weekend’s Jayhawk Invitational in Overland Park, KS
Lamel Robinson 5’10” Team Rush (Park Hill South): Quick on quick point guard who has the ability to facilitate and get buckets while playing at a fast pace. His speed combined with the ability to change directions make him a tough cover in the open floor or in a half court offense. He has a nice shooting touch in the lane and can also stretch it out to 3-point range. He can play off the ball because of his scoring prowess.
Desi Williams 5’9″ KC Run GMC (Park Hills South): A classic pass-first point guard who knows how to run a team. He knows how to push the pace, slow things down and get the ball to the main scorers on his team. I really like watching him work on the defensive end where he is a tenacious on-ball defender. He can make opposing point guards very uncomfortable. Does not make a lot of mistakes.
Rich Johnson 5’9″ KC Run GMC (Lee’s Summit West): An impressive little guard who operates well at either backcourt spot. He and Robinson form a little and lethal backcourt with their collective speed, quickness and ability to score. He is a jet in the open court, plus he has the ability to knock down 3-pointers.
Mikel Henderson 5’10 KC Spurs Black (Lee’s Summit North): Solid point guard who has enjoyed a strong spring with several good showings. He brings good quickness and tenacity to the defensive end, where he can cause a lot of havoc. He penetrates well into the lane and can knock down pull up jumpers.
Glenn McClintock 6’0″ Team Rush (Rockhurst): A solid point guard with nice handles and the ability to pass the ball on the money. He dropped some nice dimes off the dribble over the weekend. He also has a nice stroke from 3-point range. He plays with a lot poise.
Fernando Macedo 6’0″ KC Magic Blue (Liberty North): A savvy floor leader who caught my attention in the first three possessions of the game that I watched. He got in the lane and created a nice drop-off layup for a teammate, advanced the ball on the break and called his own number and got a bucket. He was a good decision maker who could get to his spots and not make a lot of mistakes.
