Jayhawk Invitational: Most Versatile
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the most versatile performers at last weekend’s Jayhawk Invitational in Kansas City.
4 — Markell Hood, 6’6, F, 2020, Shawnee Mission West, KC Run GMC
A junk yard dog type, capable of defending multiple positions, finishing plays around the basket and getting to the line. Hood was among his team’s leading rebounders throughout the weekend, showed the ability to run the floor, score in transition and around the basket and was among the field’s most versatile players.
24 — Spencer Jones, 6’5, F/G, 2019, Bishop Miege, KC Spurs
Jones had a terrific game against his KC Run GMC teammates, showing heart and toughness at the defensive end and on the boards as he hung tough with a bigger and stronger pair of forwards. At the offensive end of the floor he has an emerging skill set that is still in the development stages, but gets points out of movement, willingness to be available and get easy points and the ability to knock down open shots, especially along the baseline.
Cam Southern, 6’3, G, 2018, Shawnee Mission West, Team KC 17U
Southern showcased a versatile, all-around game on Friday as Team KC held off the Minnesota Comets. A crafty ball handler and scorer, Southern has good size for a guard, can handle the ball and is a good outside shooter. He also showed he’s a versatile defender, capable of defending multiple positions.
32-Jaylin Richardson, 6’2, G/F, 2020, Turner, KC Team Rush
A physical player who handles pressure under the basket well. Richardson can run the floor like a guard and finish around the basket like a power forward. He’s incredibly athletic with a powerful frame. He can push his way to the basket and slip through defensive schemes on the fly.
20-Beau Washer, 6’3, G/F, 2019, Tolton, Missouri Team Carroll
A hard-nosed defender who plays physical and hustles on the floor. He cleans up shots and rebounds well against players who have a height advantage. He can makes things happen down low and sink a 3-pointer from the wing. A solid player who always seems to find ways to stay active.
