Grassroots Update: Team Fly North
Team Fly has made a name for itself on the Portland AAU scene the past couple of years. This season on the AAU circuit they have accumulated enough talent to split into two elite squads. Kendall White is leading the “North” team that is based out of Tigard and is looking for big things this summer from his group.
Here’s a quick recap of the team so far this grassroots season.
Stevie Schlabach (2019 Tigard HS) Schlabach has impressed coaches with his shooting, scoring ability, and overall feel for the game. A bit of a “tweener” he will need to continue improving his athleticism. Schlabach is getting looks from a variety of levels and White feels that he could possibly be a low-level Division I recruit due to his shooting ability.
Josh Angle (2019 Lake Oswego HS) Angle’s reputation as a shooter is well-deserved but he’s impressed with his playmaking and passing so far this spring. He’s also been a sneaky contributor on the glass. A sterling student, he is getting looks from Ivy League schools.
Daniel Kovolev (2019 Lincoln HS) Kovolev is a physical point guard that has shown good quickness and an ability to draw fouls getting to the basket. He has battled through some injuries and is working on becoming a better outside shooter.
Alex Jaczko (2019 Newberg HS) Jaczko is a similar player to Schlabach but not as refined. He has been transitioning to more of a perimeter role after playing the post at Newberg. This is the first experience with high-level AAU basketball for Jaczko but he has adjusted fairly quickly.
Treyden Harris (2019 Cascade) Harris is a 6-foot-3 wing that White describes as a gifted athlete. He was out of action in the spring due to injury but should contribute this summer with his shooting and overall play.
Brandon Roberts (2019 Lake Oswego HS) Roberts has served as a glue guy for the team, doing all of the little things that often go unnoticed.
Fred Harding (2019 Lake Oswego HS) Harding provides additional depth in the post with his 6-foot-7 frame and willingness to bang in the paint.
Kameron Osborn (2019 Prairie HS – Vancouver) Osborn has joined Team Fly North after sitting out the spring focusing on academics. A dynamic point guard that White believes is one of the best in the Pacific Northwest, Osborn is hard-nosed and should contribute right away for the team.
Isaiah Sampson (2019 Camas HS) Perhaps the best athlete on the team, Sampson has played well both inside down on the block and from the perimeter. White notes that Sampson is the team’s mostly highly recruited player and a number of Division I programs have shown interest with Washington State in particular.
Playing in the spring for Team Fly North was Jake Fedrizzi of Lakeridge HS, who committed to Colorado Mesa, and Ben Janssan, a transfer student and former Australian Rules football player from Australia who played his senior season at Centralia High School in Washington.
