Grassroots Update: Rose City Rebels 16U
The Rose City Rebels have plenty of young talent in their pipeline and the 16U squad has cut their teeth on the EYBL circuit so far this spring. Head coach Sean Brownhill has led the Rebels to a 3-4 overall record in tournaments in Dallas and Portland so far and feels the team’s best play is ahead of them this summer.
Here’s a quick recap of the some of the team members so far this grassroots season.
Bryson Crockett (2020 West Linn HS) Crockett has been the team’s top scorer so far. The lefty has shown the ability to score at all three levels and has done a pretty good job defensively as well. Brownhill considers him simply a good all-around player and notes that schools such as Eastern Washington and Idaho have taken an early interest in him.
Isaiah Amato (2020 Central Catholic) Amato has been coming off the bench so far but been a key cog for the Rebels. The combo guard has good athleticism and length and has been working on getting more aggressive to score for himself instead of deferring to others. Eastern Washington has put an early offer on the table and others are watching as well.
Tucker Pellicci (2020 Franklin) Pellicci already stands out due to the fact he’s 6-foot-10. He played junior varsity for Franklin last year and is a bit of a project but Brownhill notes that Pellici has been rapidly improving on a daily basis. The 4.0 GPA student should continue to improve as he gets more experience on the circuit.
Tywuan Overton (2020 Parkrose) Overton didn’t play in 2017-18 so he dropped a bit off the radar. But he’s a 6-foot-4 lefty forward who’s active on the glass and drives to the basket hard. Brownhill sees him as a bit of a point forward and likes his ability to guard bigger players in the post.
Kyle Gruhler (2020 Skyview, Vancouver, WA) Gruhler is the team’s top shooter. At 6-foot-5, he has good size for the wing and is an underrated athlete as well.
KeShawn Hall (2020 Cheyenne, Las Vegas, NV) Hall contributes at point guard for the Rebels. Another lefty, he’s quick and excels at on-the-ball defense.
Caleb Tosky (2020 Mt. Vernon, WA) Tosky is a 6-foot-6 forward who plays the stretch 4 for the Rebels. Still working on improving his athleticism, he is still growing having put on two inches of height in the past year.
Brownhill notes that the rest of the roster is in a bit of flux, with the main news being that Payton Richardson (2020 Western Mennonite) has decided to leave the team.
The Rose City Rebels 16U will be playing at the West Coast Spring Showcase this weekend in Vancouver.
