EYBL Hampton Superlatives: Wings
HAMPTON, VA — Prep Hoops was in the house that Boo built for the fourth session of Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League. It’s time to recap what we saw during a busy weekend. We resume our superlatives series with a rundown of five of the top wings we saw.
’20 SCOTTIE BARNES | NIKE TEAM FLORIDA
Scottie Barnes went off for 25 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks, and 2 steals to help his team clinch a Peach Jam berth with a win over Boo Williams in the final game of the session. The long limbed 6-foot-7 wing, who could still be growing, demonstrated a high IQ and clearly enjoys getting his teammates involved. Displaying a high motor as well, Barnes was one of the best long term prospects we saw over the weekend.
’20 BJ BOSTON | AOT RUNNING REBELS
With a 17-point per game scoring average through four games in Hampton, Brandon “BJ” Boston is proving to be one of the more natural scorers in the 2020 class. A skilled 6-foot-6 wing out of Norcross, Georgia with fluid movements, the rising junior is already a primary target for several power five programs.
’21 TERRENCE CLARKE | EXPRESSIONS ELITE
We saw Terrence Clarke have his best game of the session when he dropped 13 in a tight one vs. NY Rens. The 6-foot-6, 185-pound rising sophomore knocked down 4 of 6 threes, and showed that he could also mix it up off the bounce. Clarke, who is already playing a key role on a 17U EYBL Peach Jam squad, is definitely tracking among the top prospects nationally in his class.
’19 DJ JEFFRIES | BLUFF CITY LEGENDS
Kentucky commit DJ Jeffries might be one of the more underrated players nationally in the 2019 class. Bluff City Legends were 4-0 in Hampton, and the 6-foot-8 wing played a key role in their success. Jeffries averaged 19 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and shot 58% from the field this past weekend.
’19 JADEN MCDANIELS | SEATTLE ROTARY
Jaden McDaniels made a strong case as a top-5, and possibly the top long term prospect in the 2019 class nationally with his performances in session 4. At 6-foot-10 with guard skills, he is an elite athlete who moves fluidly and can stretch the floor off the bounce from long range. McDaniels averaged 19.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game in Hampton to help his program clinch their first ever trip Peach Jam.
’19 KAHLIL WHITNEY | MAC IRVIN FIRE
Kahlil Whitney has seen his stock explode in recent months, and that trend should continue after what we saw last weekend. The athletic 6-foot-7 wing, who led his team to a Peach Jam appearance, averaged 20 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block per game.
