EYBL Hampton Superlatives: Bigs
HAMPTON, VA — Prep Hoops was in the house that Boo built for the fourth session of Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League. It’s time to recap what we saw during a busy weekend. We resume our superlatives series with a look at ten of the top bigs we saw.
’19 ARMANDO BACOT JR. | TEAM TAKEOVER
After a slow start to the spring for his standards, Armando Bacot really picked it up down the stretch, and capped it off with a strong session in Hampton. The seamless integration of the 6-foot-10 five-star power forward into TTO’s system is part of the reason why they are the Peach Jam favorites.
’19 VERNON CAREY JR. | NIKE TEAM FLORIDA
It’s easy to see why Vernon Carey is touted as one of the top three class of 2019 prospects in America. At 6-foot-9, 245 pounds, he exhibits fluid movements wand the ability to stretch the floor along with an impressive skill set.
’19 SYDNEY CURRY | MAC IRVIN FIRE
Miami (OH) is getting a good one in Sydney Curry. He moves bodies at 6’8, 260, and has nice touch around the basket. Owning a high motor, Curry demonstrated soft hands, good footwork, and the ability to finish through contact.
’19 ZACH FREEMANTLE | NJ PLAYAZ
Zach Freemantle was a personal favorite of the Prep Hoops staff. The 6-foot-8 power forward out of Bergen Catholic (NJ) demonstrated toughness, mobility, and the ability to protect the rim as well as consistently finish in traffic.
’20 ELIJAH HUTCHINS-EVERETT | 16U NJ PLAYAZ
6-foot-9 post prospect Elijah Hutchins-Everett stretched the floor as well as any big we saw in Hampton. He showed why he is tracking among the top bigs nationally in the 2020 class.
’19 JOEL SORIANO | PSA CARDINALS
Fordham commit Joel Soriano was a vital factor in PSA’s successful Peach Jam qualification efforts. The hard-working 6’9 power forward constantly ran the floor and was generally active on both ends of the floor.
’19 ISAIAH STEWART | CITY ROCKS
Isaiah Stewart looked like a man among boys despite being on what many consider the toughest sneaker circuit. At 6-foot-8, 243 pounds, the fundamentally-sound five-star power forward has super long arms and a relentless motor. Stewart is one of four bigs nationally that averaged a double-double on his respective circuit.
’20 LANCE WARE | 16U NY RENS
6-foot-9 power forward Lance Ware showed that he has the ability to do virtually anything on both ends of the floor. You have to love his ability to switch screens and defend on the perimeter while also providing elite rim protection. Every high major school in the country should have Ware on their radar.
’19 JAMES WISEMAN | BLUFF CITY LEGENDS
James Wiseman was probably the best long term prospect we saw at the power forward position in Hampton. An agile 7-footer with a lengthy wingspan, he is a skilled lefty who can face up and stretch the floor from long range. Wiseman’s potential on defense is limitless, but he has to learn to become more disciplined so he can stay out of foul trouble and remain on the court.
’20 GABE WUOR | 16U TEAM DURANT
Gabe Wuor continues to impress for a very good 16U Team Durant. The 6-foot-11 post prospect is always available for a dump off, and loves to finish with an emphatic dunk.
