A Family Affair: Iowa’s Top Brother Acts
Kris Murray/Keegan Murray
These identical twins take the cake when it comes to production. Last season, as juniors, the two combined to average 29.5 points, and connected on 91 3s. Look for the lengthy sharpshooting bros to better that next season for Cedar Rapids Prairie.
Cade Winkel/Angelo Winkel
The Winkel bros are in-line for not just one, but two more big seasons together. Angelo was magnificent last winter as a freshman, Cade was great as a sophomore. Together, they scored 27 points per game, and hauled in 16.7 rebounds. They get it done defensibly, too, and swatted 73 shots together last season. The Winkel bros will be eyeing a state title, or two, the next couple of years with Bishop Garrigan.
Sam Glenn/James Glenn
Sam’s got two state titles under his belt with Grand View Christian, James, a freshman, has one. Now, the tandem will take their talents to Southeast Polk, and see how they stack up against CIML competition. We think they’ll both make a big splash.
Hosea Treadwell/Manny Austin
This shooter/slasher combo made big waves with Hoover last season, and the half-brothers could both be among the CIML’s best next season. Hosea, a junior, is one of the state’s most confident shooters. Manny, a freshman, is one of the state’s best 2021 prospects.
Max Duax/Michael Duax
There’s never been a Duax that wasn’t really good at basketball, and more often than not of late, there’s been more than one on the roster for opponents to deal with. That won’t change next season. Max is an established varsity player, who averaged 6.8 points per game next season. Michael is a 2021 Watch list guy, who could see some minutes with varsity next season as a sophomore.
Jake Hilmer/Austin Hilmer
Jake is one of the state’s best point guards and has been since his freshman year. A record-breaker, he’ll likely continue to re-write to record books next year as a senior. His younger brother, Austin, is an incoming freshman, and after getting a good look at him at the FutureStars Showcase earlier this spring, it’s clear as day to see they’re brothers.
Dylan Peeters/Sean Peeters
The big-man duo at Assumption is going to score a lot of points, snare an abundance of rebounds and block a ton of shots next season for the Assumption. Last season, Dylan, a junior, and Sean, a sophomore, combined to average 23 points per game, 11.5 rebounds and blocked 31 shots.
Preston Rochford/Parker Rochford
The brothers were essential in helping to guide Edgewood-Colesburg to the program’s first-ever state tourney appearance last season. As a freshman, Parker led the Vikings in scoring, going for 12.4 points per game. He shot amazingly, with splits of 54/48/71. Older bro Preston notched 11 points per game, and was among the state’s best assist guys, dishing out 6.9 per game.
