Prospect Profile: Boston Smith (2019 McNary HS/Hoop Salem Select)
Boston Smith is a no nonsense kind of guy. The solid 6-foot-6, 215-pound post from McNary puts in his time on the floor and does the dirty work down low. He’s been playing this summer with the Select team for Hoop Salem and it’s been a good experience for him so far.
“I think we’ve meshed together well – we’ve got some Seattle guys and some Salem guys,” Smith said. “I’ve been playing good. I think I’m averaging 14-16 a game and 8-9 rebounds. Definitely my spin move has been going good and I’ve been working on my mid-range, lots of jumpers.”
Smith had a solid frame and isn’t afraid to mix it up down low. At the recent Oregon High Academic Showcase, he was able to show off a couple of his patented spin moves in the post as well as run the floor well. He hit a few mid-range jumpers and while his game is more below the rim than above, he fought hard for rebounds and held his ground defensively.
Smith is looking for a nice academic fit when it comes to a college and basketball program. Since former Corban head coach Austin Johnson was helping his AAU team, he naturally has received some attention from the Warriors. But other than that, he’s wide open.
“I’m looking for an engineering school,” Smith said. “I’m looking to go out of state but I am definitely open to any local options.”
For now, Smith is instead focused on the rest of the summer going into next season. “I definitely want to keep improving my mid-range game,” Smith said. “And for next year average about 18 a game in-season.”
Smith currently ranks as the #44 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
