2021 G/F Wesley Cardet Jr. talks recruitment, Team Breakdown ball and more
It has been a nice summer for 2021 point guard Wesley Cardet Jr.
The rising sophomore earned offers from Dayton and UF earlier this month to pair with his original offer from Tennessee Tech. Cardet Jr. called it a true blessing to be offered by these schools and that he’s extremely grateful.
He also has drawn interest from FSU, Coppin State, UTSA, St. Louis and Miami.
At 6’5″, 190 lbs., Cardet Jr. is a long and athletic guard/forward who suits up for Northeast during high school and Team Breakdown in the spring and summer for travel ball.
He labeled his freshman season exciting as Northeast reached the Class 7A final before losing to eventual champion Doral.
“I’ve been attending Northeast games since middle school the atmosphere at games is crazy. I knew the challenges that I would have to overcome this year as being the only freshman on a varsity team with five Division-1 seniors,” Cardet Jr. told Prep Hoops. “My confidence on the court grew as I started to work individually on my game. As I adjusted to the pace of varsity and saw myself getting better, my confidence increased as well. I really had the mentality to just go as hard as I could every time I had the opportunity to play.”
Cardet Jr. is playing up in AAU ball with the 17U Team Breakdown squad. It is his second year with the program. He also played for Below The Rim at times last summer.
“I split my time between the two teams last year and that was instrumental in my development, but this year I’m only playing with Tem Breakdown,” he said. “So far AAU is going well, I’m learning a lot and I’m excited to be playing with such great players. This year is really all about taking that next step.”
In terms of his biggest strengths, Cardet Jr. pointed to his court vision and ability to see plays before they happen. He’s aiming to improve on everything he says, including his diet and treating his body like a professional.
Rumblings prior to his freshman season had Cardet Jr. labeled as the next big thing down south. He’s working hard and gaining invaluable experience with the 17U Team Breakdown squad. With Division I schools coming after him already and keeping tabs, I fully expect Cardet Jr. to have a big June college camp month and July during the final live periods.
