2019 Choctaw F Diante Smith talks surplus of offers, his game and more
Diante Smith has seen his stock explode here this spring.
The 6’6″, 190-pounder has earned 12 offers since April 21 from LSU, Alabama, Mississippi State, Cincinnati, Dayton, Seton Hall, USF, Virginia Tech, TCU, Canisius, Auburn and UF.
Perhaps the hottest Division I prospect in the state, Smith also has offers previously from Troy, Georgia Southern, Miami, FGCU, FIU, Southeastern Louisiana, St. John’s, South Alabama and UAB.
The 2019 Choctaw leader says college coaches view him as a wing.
Fresh off a 27-3 campaign for the Indians, Smith was instrumental in helping Choctaw reach the Class 7A title game. His group went on to lose 43-38 in a tough battle to Doral.
This summer, he’s playing for 1Family something that he truly enjoys.
“They give you a lot of freedom and let you play your style,” Smith told Prep Hoops Florida. “My game has improved from playing on the circuit, my aggression and playing well consistently.”
Smith pointed to his versatility, tempo as a ballhandler and pressure defensively as his biggest strengths. He wants to continue to improve his ballhandling.
When you see Smith in person, you are looking at a dominant interior presence and a guy who can beat you quickly with his jumper. His ballhandling has bright moments, but he’s absolutely right. If he wants to be a top guy, he needs to be consistently smooth with the ball. That leads to so much more on the floor. Regardless, he’s a high major Division I prospect with endless potential.
