2018 Prep Hoops Oklahoma State Tournament: 16U Stock Risers
Day 2 of the Prep Hoops Oklahoma State Tournament is up and running and here are some of the players who have stood out in the 16U division.
Isaiah Williams 2020 ProSkills Oklahoma
Williams has had an excellent Day 2 so far. His length and athleticism has have overwhelmed opponents all day. Williams is a long slasher who is stronger than he looks and seeks contact in the paint. He is one of the best finishers at the event.
He doesn’t look like the most intense guy out there and he can get caught drifting around too much at times. However, when he is locked in he is an excellent defender. Throughout the day, he was asked to guard point guards half his size and he did it with success. He has some of the best feet you will see this weekend.
He consistently cuts guys off and made them do what he wanted and they never felt comfortable.
Sam Godwin 2020 Team Buddy Buckets
Godwin was the defensive player of the day. You rarely find young bigs who understand the advantage of verticality when protecting the rim. Godwin showed patience and discipline when guys went directly at him in the paint.
He was not too thirsty for blocks to go for pump fakes or compromise his defensive and rebounding position.
Godwin stood because he was not trying too. He just did what he does well and affected the game immensely.
Godwin did a great job of rebounding with two hands at all times. He playing a big man who outweighed him but he did not let that discourage his motor.
Godwin’s instincts on the defensive end are special and his elite motor is a skill that continue to lead to much success.
Cyson Mathis 2020 Oklahoma Hoops
Mathis is an intense player who plays extremely hard. He also has more versatility than you would think seeing how he has to handle the ball more because of their lack of guard presence.
Mathis is a forward who does a great job of carving out space to get offensive rebounds and put backs. His physicall strength allows him to move people out of his way.
He has a large role on Oklahoma Hoops which he tries to fulfill that every time he steps on the floor.
Traejon Davis 2020 Team Griffin
Davis is a long forward who can score in a variety of ways. His midrange jumper is pure and opens up other opportunities for the rest of his game to shine.
He is on a loaded team full of athletes but Davis brings a skillfulness to Team Griffin that cant be understated.
Davis has played well at the PHOK State Tournament playing at a slower pace but effective. He is also more athletic than meets the eye. He has had a few breakaway dunks so far.
On a team full of talented athletes, Davis has shown this weekend the ability to put the ball in the whole.
Donovan Vickers 2020 Team Griffin
Vickers’ stock is already high in the people who are familiar with him but a lot of people don’t know about him considering he played on a stacked guard depth chart at Edmond Santa Fe.
He has shown the ability to play the point guard position efficiently full time. He has shot the ball well this weekend and has had his head up in the open floor and fed his teammates.
Surprisingly, Vickers is also a great rebounder for his size and is lethal when he grabs the rebound and pushes the pace.
Vickers is a talented guard who is playing at a high level and preparing for a larger role in high school ball.
