Warmup Weekend Superlatives: Top Underclassmen
This weekend we split time between Capital Hoop Fest and DMVelite Live Warmup, two well-run events featuring some good local talent. Its time to go back and recap what we saw. Here we run down six of many talented underclassmen we observed. Rising freshman and sophomores are the focus of this article.
IKE CORNISH | TEAM MELO
Ike Cornish has the highest ceiling among all the underclassmen on this list. The freshman wing out of Dulaney HS is skilled and demonstrates good body control.
TRAE ENGLISH | TEAM MELO

We’ve included Trae English on this list for his production. The pesky floor general had a good outing on Saturday at DMVelite.
JAO ITUKA | TEAM STAT
Jao Ituka had some really nice moments in a competitive game vs. Mid Atlantic Select at Capital Hoop Fest. The athletic freshman guard mixed it up nicely on the offensive end, and rebounded well out of his area.
AUSTIN SMITH | MID ATLANTIC SELECT
We’ve got to mention Austin Smith here cause we saw him hit about three or four threes in one game on Sunday. The 2021 guard is one to watch at Gonzaga.
JALEN WARLEY | TEAM DURANT
We saw a little bit of Jalen Warley with Westtown during the season, but it’s safe to say he has improved since then. The skilled lead guard already has good size for a point guard, and it looks like he could still be growing.
JARACE WALKER | TEAM THRILL
IMG Academy is getting a terrific young prospect in Jarace Walker. The athletic and well built forward already has a great skill set.
