Warmup Weekend Superlatives: Top Shooters
This weekend we split time between Capital Hoop Fest and DMVelite Live Warmup, two well-run events featuring some good local talent. Its time to go back and recap what we saw. Here we run down ten of the best shooters we observed.
LINCOLN BALL | WILLIAMSPORT (MD) ’20/17U MID ATLANTIC SELECT
Mid Atlantic Select had several guys who shot it well, and sophomore Lincoln Ball was among the best. At 6’4, he’s able to shoot it both off the catch and from the dribble.
CALEB BOWERS | WILLIAMSPORT (MD) ’20/16U DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Caleb Bowers showcased nice touch both from three point and mid range at the Capital Hoop Fest. He’s always shot ready on the catch, and has a quick release.
ANDRE BOTTOMS | OSCAR SMITH (VA) ’20/16U TEAM DURANT
Andre Bottoms knocked down a handful of three point jumpers vs. 17U Mid Atlantic Select in one of the most competitive games we saw this weekend. The 757 native had a strong showing this weekend.
KAMDYN CURFMAN | GEORGETOWN PREP (MD) ’19/17U DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Kamyn Curfman‘s shot making ability was evident throughout the weekend. The skilled point guard has what they call ‘in the gym’ range.
JASON GIBSON | SIDWELL FRIENDS (DC) ’19/17U 6TH MAN WARRIORS
In a matchup against We R1 at DMVelite Live Warmup, Jason Gibson posed problems with his knock down jumper and creativity. He shrewdly used shot fakes, which opened up the rest of his game.
JUSTIN PAZ | BETHLEHEM CATHOLIC (PA) ’19/17U WE R1
Justin Paz is one of two deadly shooters for We R1. The Pennsylvania native is always positioned well off the ball, and has a quick release.
ALEXANDER RICE | MATER DEI PREP (NJ) ’19/17U WE R1
While his release may be considered a bit unorthodox, Alexander Rice is a confident and consistent perimeter jump shooter. We saw him connect on several threes, both off the dribble and from the catch, during two games at DMVelite.
COLLIN SCHLEE | OAKDALE (MD) ’19/17U MID ATLANTIC SELECT
Collin Schlee was among the best catch and shoot guys we saw this weekend. His catch one dribble pull up game was also smooth.
AUSTIN SMITH | GONZAGA (DC) ’21/15U MID ATLANTIC SELECT
A kid we had never seen before, but stood out as a result of consistent shot making ability was Austin Smith. He competed in one of the best games we saw this weekend on Championship Sunday.
PHILLIP SMITH | BULLIS (MD) ’19/17U MID ATLANTIC SELECT
Phillip Smith barely hit the rim on any of his makes at Elevate Hoops. The 6’5 wing was a big time threat on the perimeter for his team.
