Tourney Preview: Oregon Open Run
As many of the shoe company teams make their way back to Indianapolis for a variety of company run events, the best locally operated tournament of the second viewing period is taking place Friday – Sunday at the Beaverton Hoop YMCA and other locations in the Portland metro area including Clackamas Community College. Hosted by James Johnson of The Salem Hoop, the event features nearly 180 teams from around the west coast and features players that will draw heavy D1 interest as well as flock of players that will move on to star at the D2, NAIA, D3, and junior college levels.
Some of the feature players in the event include:
Jaden Nielsen Skinner 2019 Guard The Salem Hoop
“Skinny” committed to Coach Barret Peery and Portland State of the Big Sky Conference and that is looking to be a steal for the Vikings. Despite his 5’10 frame, Skinner continues to show off an ever improving offensive game to go along with his high level intangibles.
Anton Watson 2019 Forward Griffins
The athletic 6’7 forward lead his Gonzaga Prep team from Spokane to a class 4A state title (highest classification) this winter. This comes on the heel of his verbal commitment to WCC power Gonzaga. Watson is an impressive athlete who shows up all over the stat sheet.
Jhaylon Martinez 2020 Post Team Arsenal
The rapidly improving 6’10 post has picked up offers from Montana and UC Santa Barbara this week and is definitely one of the younger players to watch this weekend.
