The 2018 Update: Available Prospects and Who’s Going Prep
Between following the new crop of 17U grassroots hoopers and all of their responsibilities with the guys who are currently on campus, many college programs are also still filling out their 2018 class.
So, what’s been going on with these unsigned guys who finished up their high school career last month?
Who’s going prep?
It’s been well established that Jeremiah Davenport, Christian Guess, Tre Williams, and Dominic “DJ” Brewton, have chosen this route. Former Hughes wing DJ Brewton is the only to choose a prep school, Dohn Prep in Cincinnati. Meanwhile, Guess and Williams have both received a D-I offer since officially declaring the prep school route. Expect Davenport to be courted by MM/HM programs over the next 12 months.
Dohn Prep could also welcome in guys like Giovanni Santiago, DiShon Daniels, and others. Although those two aren’t officially heading prep, it’s likely.
Meanwhile, the rumor for a while has been that Zubi Nwankwo will go prep. And recently, Darweshi Hunter of Princeton has been looped in with prep school rumors.
Who’s still playing AAU?
Many of the players just mentioned are playing grassroots ball this weekend: Santiago, Brewton, Daniels are playing for All Ohio Cincinnati this weekend. They’re joined by Beechcroft wing Elijah Bishop.
It was once thought that Hunter would play with them also. However, the Cincy Lakers have him, Nwankwo, and Damani Mcentire this weekend in Indy.
C2K Elite welcomes Jeremiah Davenport for the first time this year. He’ll be with them on the UAA circuit throughout the season. Also, unsigned Princeton center Gabe O’Neal woke up coaches on the sidelines with his performance at the UAA in Indy.
Nova (James) has Ross Ryan from Pickerington North on the roster for the second weekend in a row also.
Available D-I prospects
Again, we’ve already mentioned most of them in the previous section. Otherwise, DeVon Baker from Spire Institute (formerly Dunbar), de-committed from Salem International and hasn’t found another school yet. His former AAU teammate, Houston King, hasn’t signed and was offered by Eastern Kentucky on Friday. Finally, EJ Williams from Middletown hasn’t made any announcement.
Other available prospects
One of our highest rated unsigned seniors is Al Johnson, a 6’7” rim protector from Akron Ellet. We’ve been very high on Johnson for a while now. He’s between Walsh and various junior colleges.
Reading 6’6″-6’7″ forward Bryce Hunt is still available after de-committing from Pikeville. Various JUCOs, Kentucky Christian, Wheeling Jesuit, and Cincinnati Christian are recruiting him.
Christian Smith from Toledo Rogers is still without an offer but is in the middle of a four-school visit schedule. He enjoyed his recent visit to Vincennes. Meanwhile, Wabash Valley, Walter State, and a few others are also in the picture.
A pair of under-the-radar point guards are leaning one way. Bowsher’s Ajai Washington is leaning towards Pennsylvania Highlands CC. Meanwhile, Meadowbrook’s Trey Singleton is pretty set on playing at Muskingum.
