Stratford Trio Recruiting Update (2018’s)
NASHVILLE– Stratford successfully advanced to the Class AA State semifinals, frustratingly losing to Fulton High School in overtime 73-72. The last two months perfectly showcased the deep talent on Stratford’s team and proved most of the seniors are college-ready.
Seniors Jahari Reed (PrepHoopsTN #102 in Class of 2018), Kevonte Boyd (#91 in 2018), and Ivan Buford are looking at their options carefully and nearing their pivotal decisions.
“Jahari (Reed) has interest from Cleveland State (Community College) and Vol State,” said Stratford Head Coach Romey Reed. “They both will take him right now.”
Cleveland State CC finished 15-12 this season and 56.3% of their 2017-2018 squad hailed from Tennessee originally. Six of this past season’s Cougars started hooping in Memphis (Romero Hill-Whitehaven, Rodney Burnett-Central, Tomonique Marion and Tevin Olison and Mohanna Sanders all from Mitchell, Jordan Brown-Middle College).
Should all Cleveland State freshmen return (rarely happens), then Jahari could become the second Nashville player on the roster along with Collin Herron (Hillsboro).
“There is one last visit planned for Jahari and Kevonte to Walters State next weekend.”
Kevonte Boyd is considering either walking on for a Division I team or attending junior college. He has some consideration from both. More than Jahari or Ivan Buford, Kevonte has some developing to do with his game. This season he buried the mid-range, indicating he could be a face-up four at the junior college level. If he is going to be a traditional big for a Division I program he must add significant muscle to bang on the blocks.
Ivan Buford is not 100% locked in, but according to Head Coach Romey Reed, Buford is nearly certain to pick Columbia State Community College. For what it is worth, Jayden Lockett (East Nashville) just selected Columbia State this week too.
Congrats to our All Region performer, Ivan Buford G 2018 and All Region Tournament MVP Kevonte Boyd, F 2018 💯💪🏾🏀 pic.twitter.com/Cgsy5pmRjM
