Storm Classic: Top 2021 Performances
Grand Rapids was host to one of the top Midwest tournaments this weekend, as the Storm Classic featured several elite programs.
In terms of Ohio talent, our Under Armour affiliate C2K Elite and Nova Village acted as headliners. All Ohio Rebels, Ohio Varsity Shooting Stars, Ohio Varsity, Elite Basketball Club, and a couple others also made the trek up north.
One week before the Live Period, plenty of Ohio’s Division I prospects found a rhythm in their fresh new uniforms. However, there was talent up and down, including some breakout small college prospects and everything in between.
Andre Irvin, 5’5” PG, Nova (James) / Olentangy Orange
The ball dominant point guard can make plays with his ball skills. He’s creative with the pass and made defenders pay for going under screens with his jumper. Although his athleticism and size hold Irvin back, he does everything else pretty well, especially shooting with range.
Chance Groce, 6’4” G/W, Nova (James) / Linden-McKinley
Groce’s one on one scoring ability is special. He’s already a three-level scorer who can create a look from wherever on any given possession. With his feet set, Groce knocked down four 3-pointers during the game we saw of his. He’s athletic and can finish at the rim or with a two-foot floater.
The young player’s growth needs to come on the defensive side of the floor. He wasn’t especially receptive to the coach’s instructions on team defense, instead opting to belly up with his individual matchup at all times. However, staying in a quality basketball situation should amend those issues. He has obvious Division I talent.
Brendon Hill, 6’2” W, Nova (James) / Wayne
In our first viewing of Hill, we came away impressed by his activity level on both ends of the floor. The high-motor athlete found points by cutting and scoring on second chances. Hill pushed the pace on forced turnovers and rebounds. He’s capable of defending multiple positions currently. Hill is raw in terms of skill.
Amarion Dickerson, 6’4” W, All Ohio Rebels 16U / Rhodes
Dickerson impressed in back to back weekends at the 16U level. We liked the way the athletic wing attacked creases in the defense. His handle is better than we thought coming into the weekend. Dickerson sees the floor on offense but got caught spectating on occasion defensively. He needs to completely overhaul his jumper, but the physical tools are pretty exciting.
