2020 Stock Risers: Second Live Period
The second and final NCAA certified period of the Spring has come and gone. Teams from Kentucky were spread out across the midwest and south but most were in Indianapolis or Atlanta. Several teams had strong weekends and many players had really good weekends. Here’s a look at some of the weekend’s top performers.
Marcellus Vail, Collins (M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs 16u) – One of the best perimeter scorers in the class, Vail had a big weekend for the Mustangs. Marcellus scored 16, 23, 32 and 21 as his team went 3-1 in Indianapolis. Against the Colorado Hawks on Saturday night, Vail hit a pull-up 3 with less than 15 seconds left to put the Mustangs up 78-75. They eventually won 80-75.
Amari Taylor, Tates Creek (Louisville Magic 16u) – Amari finished up a good 2 week stretch for the Magic by leading his team to a 4-0 record. Taylor had games of 15, 12, 16 and 11 over the weekend. Amari is a skilled scorer with “old man game”. Taylor will hurt you in the mid-range and is a crafty finisher.
Kenny White, Madisonville (Hoop Dreams 17u) – Kenny has all the intangibles to be a top player in the class. He’s long, athletic and skilled and can play and guard multiple positions. The 6’6″ lefty received praise from multiple scouts during a strong weekend. White had 14 points and 7 rebounds in one win and showed his versatility in another. Kenny is one to track in the 2020 class.
Brayden Sebastian, Garrard County (ICE 2020) – Sebastian is a really good guard that most in the state have never heard of due to his small school. Brayden has good size at 6’4 and great feel for the game. While playing at the HoopSeen Atlanta Jam, Brayden had a monster weekend. In the opener, he had 23 points and 15 boards, went for 30 and 16 in the second game, 23 and 10 the third game and 19 points and 15 rebounds in the last game of the weekend. Sebastian is a name to track in the class as he starts to put himself on the map.
