Recruiting Report: Marcus Watson (2020)
Morgan Park 2020 point guard Marcus Watson had an outstanding showing at the state tournament helping lead his team to another state title. He is an angular guard that plays bigger than his height especially defensively because of his length. Gets into his man and doesn’t let him get comfortable. Watson is so smooth with the rock weaving in and out of defenders and scoring at the cup with acrobatic layups. Lot of transition scores. D1 prospect that needs to get more looks at the mid-major level during the live periods.
Watson discussed his second 3A title.
“Another state championship adding to one of my goals that I wanted to accomplish in my high school career. I am going for four, but have to take one at a time.”
How did his year go overall from an individual standpoint?
“At the beginning of the season it was my first really playing a lot on varsity. I had to get the feel of the game. Once I got the feel I let everything come to me.”
He told us there are a couple areas he felt he really improved.
“My defense and my shooting. Being a leader on the floor and getting my team involved.”
What are the strengths of his game?
“Defense and being a leader. At my size I have to control the game and see the floor.”
Watson chatted about his goals for the spring/summer with Mac Irvin Fire 16U.
“We are trying to win Peach Jam and play against all the top players like we did last year.”
