Recruiting Report: Jordan Wright (2019)
Over the weekend Jordan Wright scored 12.8 points per game for Nike Pro Skills in the EYBL first session in Dallas. Wright also grabbed 5.5 rebounds and three assists per game for an undefeated team. We spoke with Jordan today.
“I think it went really well,” Wright said of the first open period weekend. “Nothing better than going 4-0. I think I played well. I didn’t shoot it as well from the perimeter but other than that my weekend was really good.”
Minnesota recently joined Virginia Tech, TCU, Texas A&M, Houston and several others in offering Wright. Jordan took a visit to Stanford last fall and they are one of the six teams recruiting Wright the hardest.
“I’m hearing the most from Tulane, Virginia Tech, Stanford, Houston, Harvard, and Princeton,” Jordan said.
Seeing the IVY League schools on there you know Wright is looking for the right academic fit as well.
“The three things I’m looking most for in a school are one academics, two a family like atmosphere, and three a team that wins.”
Minnesota assistant coach – and former Tulane Head Coach – Ed Conroy has made 6-foot-6 Louisiana 2019 wing Jordan Wright a priority for several months now and after a strong EYBL weekend the Gopher staff offered Wright last night.
“I’m really excited about the offer,” Jordan told Prep Hops. “Coach Conroy and I have developed a good relationship over the past couple months and I’m looking forward to getting to know Coach (Richard) Pitino.”
Coach Conroy has been in contact for Wright for a long period of time and over the winter Conroy went to Louisiana to see Jordan play at in Baton Rouge.
Now with Minnesota taking the steps to offer Wright a scholarship the next step is for Jordan to learn more about the Gophers and the Twin Cities. Conroy has filled Wright in quite well though to date.
Coach Ed Conroy knows a little something about the Louisiana to Minnesota transition as he spent six seasons coaching at Tulane (in New Orleans) before coming to Minneapolis.
“I’m not really familiar with Minnesota yet, I know it’s a lot colder than what I’m used to though,” Jordan said with a laugh. “I know a good bit based on what Coach Conroy has told me.”
