Recruiting Report: Dean Gabrelcik (2021)
East Lake received a big boost from 2021 guard Dean Gabrelcik this season.
The 6’3″, 185 lb. freshman averaged 12.0 PPG for the Eagles (16-10). Gabrelcik ended the year with a bang, scoring 22 points in a district semifinal loss to St. Pete while shooting 6 of 10 from downtown.
This summer, he’s playing for both Clearwater Elite and Showtime Hoops. Gabrelcik plays for the 16U group in tournaments for Showtime Hoops, formally 1Family, his second year with the team.
He called his freshman season a great learning experience. Although he missed the first half of the season with a broken foot, he matured when he returned to the court.
No offers have come yet for Gabrelcik, but he’s drawn interest from Wichita State thus far.
In terms of his biggest strengths, he pointed to his scoring as he’s aiming to average 20 plus points per game as a sophomore. Gabrelcik wants to better his toughness.
A smart and instinctive kid, Gabrelcik stood out in the 13 games he was able to play as a freshman. He plays with plenty of movement and rarely is seen standing in the same spot for long unless he’s set up for a jumper. Look for him to have a nice summer.
