Recruiting Report: 2019 Johnathan McGriff
Last weekend at the DMV Elite Live Period Warmup one of the top guard performers was 2019 point guard, Johnathan McGriff, of Team Melo. McGriff is a good lead guard that can really make the right plays for his team. He is poised while on the court and is never going to force a play if it is not the right decision. He gets his teammates involved but can also get past his defenders and get to his spots on the court when he wants to.
McGriff touched on how valuable his junior season was at Huntington Prep, “It was a good high school season, it was a great experience playing at Huntington Prep so it was good and I learned a lot this past year.”
He is hoping to take what he learned from the high school season into this spring and summer, “I just want to continue to earn more offers and learn as much as I can from Team Melo.”
Shifting gears to recruitment, he is liking what he is hearing from different college coaches, “Recruitment is going well, coaches have been telling me that I am a pit-bull on defense and to just keep getting better offensively.”
He recently visited Rutgers for an unofficial visit, “It was a great experience and they are one of the schools that I am hearing from the most. Coach basically says he is looking for guys to come in and just go real hard. They are building a new facility that will be ready by the time I am a freshman and they just keep telling me they love my game and to just keep getting better.”
Another school that he is hearing from a lot is UNLV, “After we played Findlay Prep they called and told me that I have the scholarship. Coach Jeter is a great guy and I like that program a lot.”
