Prospect Spotlight: Zach Huff (2020)
A standout sophomore at the state tournament last month, Don Bosco guard Zach Huff could be one of the class of 2020’s breakout players this offseason.
Huff was a starter for the Dons this season, and with good size and a plenty of skill, he’s a guy who will be turning a lot of heads over the next two years.
“I would say I’m a combo guard, I played point for the most part this year but I also get out on the wing. My strengths are ball handling, passing and making plays,” said Huff, a top-75 proispect in Iowa’s 2020 class
“My 3-ball was decent this year but it was inconsistent, so I’m working on that. And on-ball defense is something I improved on during the season.”
His numbers aren’t as inflated of some other standout sophomores’ were. That’s because he played on one of the best and more well-balanced teams in the state.
Huff averaged 8.3 points and a team-best five assists per game last season. And he was a defensive-stopper for the Dons, too.
“By district time, I was usually assigned to take one of the other team’s best players out of the game. My sophomore year I had a role to play and I thought I did it well,” said Huff.
“I had three other great players around me that could score, so I had to create for them while running the offense and I created for myself when the time was right. Overall, I had a good season, and played best when the game was bigger.”
This spring and summer, Huff will play with Pure Prep 16U.
“I’m going to work on the things I’m not good at, and get in the weight room even more,” said Huff.
“I’m looking forward to playing basketball all summer. My goals are to get noticed by more colleges and gain more exposure.”
