Prospect Spotlight: Nick Reid (2020)
A standout at the Future Stars Camp late last month in Hiawatha, 6-foot-5 wing Nick Reid is in line to have a big offseason.
With good size and sharpshooting ability, Reid is a guy who could turn some heads this spring and summer with the Iowa Barnstormers Silver 16U team.
The Central City wing defined his skill-set during a recent phone interview with PHIA.
“I like to drive and I’m a good shooter, too. And that’s what I like to do, I like to spread the floor; because when I’m playing Class 1A basketball, usually teams focus in on me, so I got face-guarded a couple games,” said Reid.
“I thought I played pretty well this year, but there’s definitely room for improvement. We finished 13-10, though, which is our school’s best record in 10 years, so that was good.”
Reid averaged team-bests 18 points and 8.3 rebounds for the Wildcats as a sophomore. He also led the team in steals. That’s laid the foundation for some lofty junior season goals.
“Next season, some individual goals are I want to be all-state, that’s one of my main goals. I was all-substate this year, so I was pretty close,” said Reid. “We have a lot of guys graduating, so I’ll have to lead the team a little more.”
First, though, he’ll enjoy a spring and summer with the Iowa Barnstormers 16U Silver squad.
“I’m going to try and get bigger, I’m already 6’5 but I want to fill out. It’s going to be pretty cool playing with them because of the high skill level and playing against all that good competition around the US, that’ll be pretty fun,” said Reid, who hopes his recruitment takes off this summer.
“I’m excited, I know the Coe coach already, but it’s going to be really fun. I hope some other coaches see things in me that they like.”
